Trout Fishing can be done jsut 2 miles down the mountain along the Tuckaseegee River and golfing is just 15 minutes away at the Smoky Mountain Country Club in Whittier.

It is easy to get to and is a little over 2 hours from Atlanta and about an hour from Asheville. It is about 30 minutes away from our other home Bear's Den & 20 minutes from Bear Trax.

There is a lot to do in the Smoky Mountains in the summer and fall. It is the busy time of the year with summer activities such as hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, auto touring or just kick'n back enjoying smoky mountain time. The hardwood forest throughout the region are famous for their fall color display and the forest's and the view from Bear Necessities will not disapoint. Fall colors start to show around the first of October and typicaly peak between 2nd and 3rd weeks of the month.

Site seeing along the Blue Ridge Parkway is very popular in the summer and fall months. Shopping and dining are also popular with many great local places to eat and shop just minutes away. We have placed a local guide in the home outlining some of our favorite "local" eateries.

In the winter and early spring snow occurs from time to time, but in general the winters are mild. If you enjoy winter sports, nearby Cataloochee offers snow skiing, snow boarding, snow tubing and ice skating from about late November through mid-March. Our rates are reduced in the off season, so come up the spend some RR when the crowds are less and the crystal blue skies are at their best.
